Slow Mornings: We Dig Them

Monday, January 16, 2017

You guys. It's been a WHILE. So much has been going on in our little world (new, exciting things!)and I promise I didn't entirely abandon this tiny piece of the web. Despite the chaos of preparing for so much goodness currently, slow mornings are still our jam. Finn is practically ready for college...just kidding but my goodness what a few months does. He's hilarious as ever, full of life and has FINALLY started returning some non-forced affection. I knew my smothering would eventually pay off. Each day I get home from work he wraps onto me like a spider monkey and plants a big ole' muahhhhhh straight on the lips. Not to mention, he randomly comes at us with arms wide open for some hugs followed by a loud verbal "awwww." SOBBING. Being his momma continues to be the greatest thing ever. Anyway, back to slow mornings. Every weekend we try our best to be present, mindful, and truly engaged with one another as much as we possibly can. It's good for the soul. It's good for us. And that of course starts with the morning. This weekend we couldn't make up our minds with wanting savory or sweet for breakfast, so we opted for both! Finn and I whipped up some simple ingredient blueberry muffins while dad did his work on bacon and eggs. We're all about balance over here. Afterwards we did a family clean up and proceeded with our usual living room dance party. LP and Bon Iver have shamelessly been on repeat over herrr. As have turmeric lattes. I'm obsessed, and my excuse for excessively drinking them is that it's good for my immune system. After a months' worth of sickness between the 3 of us that's a good enough excuse for me.
Swim lessons for bubby capped off our morning followed by a nap (for him not me, although I would like them nap time for bubby = laundry time for parents).

Also, this momma is getting ready to open an online business as of the end of January! If all-natural, handcrafted, organic, botanically powered skincare + home goods are your thing... find us at www.shalamoon.com

{{A Small, Intimate Blessing for Finn}}

Friday, July 22, 2016

Last month we celebrated Finn in the most beautiful way. Our little family has a strong faith; however, for reasons we would like to keep personal (and pray those respect) we felt that a traditional church Baptism just wasn't right for us and our little boy. Rather, we opted for something intimate as we wanted to keep the focus on what a blessing was truly about, Finn and his connection with God. And what better place to have such a personal event than in our own back yard? It was brief, meaningful, and beautiful and we wouldn't have wanted in any other way.

 A HUGE thank you to our friend Marcus who facilitated our little ceremony and created the most beautiful words.

Zoo + Weekend

Monday, June 20, 2016

Last summer we took Finn to the zoo at around just this time. The difference: Finn was a little newb who slept through 80% the first time around, and this time around he was laughing, running, and pointing at every animal he saw yelling "TITEEE" (kitty) or "DOGGIEE"! He couldn't get enough of the monkeys either. Amazing what a year does. I think it's safe to say he thoroughly enjoyed himself, and we did too! Below are some photos from the zoo and other weekend adventures. On Sunday (Father's Day) we also had the most beautiful, intimate, baptism for Finn in our backyard, which I'll be sharing tidbits of that on here soon.

The blue top I'm wearing is from Rosy's Boutique. At Rosy's, a portion of every purchase goes to a featured cause and right now that cause is LACASA, an organization that advocates for survivors of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

{{Mommy + Finn + Pink Blush}}

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

I recently received this adorable little lime number from PinkBlush, an online women's boutique with the cutest clothes (including maternity!), which made for a perfect excuse to do a mini momma + Finn shoot. PinkBlush likes to focus on pieces that can easily transition from pre-preggers, to bun-in-the-oven, to post-preggers; and as a momma who plans on giving Finn some siblings one day I couldn't be happier to have been introduced to them! This dress in particular is the Basic V-neck in Lime. Probably the comfiest dress I've ever had on, no joke, and the flowy-ness of it just makes it feel/look so feminine. I belted mine here but I love it without a belt too! Stay tuned on Instagram because we've teamed up to give one lucky lady a $50 PinkBlush gift card!
